Located to the right hand side of the DesignJet 600 and 650 is the pulley assembly. This consists of a motor that drives a small belt, which in turn, drives a double pulley. The double pulley then drives the long belt attached to the carriage assembly.
The idler pulley keeps the tension on the small belt via a spring loaded wedge. Over time, the idler pulley can break, leading to a loss of tension on the small belt, which causes the carriage assembly not to move. When this happens, the following error message will appear on the screen:
